Breakfast, the most important meal of the day.

My healthy eating tip this week shouldn’t come as a surprise, as breakfast has long been touted as the most important meal of the day, and for good reasons.

After sleeping all night, our body needs fuel to get started with the day, so we can perform all of the tasks on our to do list, or simply get to work. If there is no fuel (much like my car’s empty petrol tank at present), there is simply no energy to begin your day, and you will certainly struggle to concentrate at that early morning meeting or on the drive to drop the kids off.

What is my prescription: breakfast! Now for those of you who enjoy eating breakfast, this is easy. But there are a vast majority of people who simply can’t stand the sight of food so early in the day. The important thing to remember if this is the case for you, something is better than nothing, to get your metabolism kick started for the day. By skipping breakfast (or any meal for that matter), you are actually doing your body a disservice as it will be forced to retain fat stores in your body as a source of fuel if it is unsure of where the next meal is coming from. Plus it really slows down your metabolism so that you aren’t burning fat as well as your breakfast eating mates are. And we all want effective fat burning abilities right??

So make sure you are eating something in the morning. If you simply can’t face food there are always breakfast drinks that might be a stepping stone towards food. But ultimately a balanced breakfast will set you up well for the day.
